TRAINEE PROJECT - PLATINUM PORSCHE

A very special project was on the agenda for two of our film wrapping trainees in recent weeks. Lena and Fabian are visibly proud of the result, as the Porsche 911 GT3 show car shines in new splendour. THE HIGHLIGHT: The finishing was done with platinum leaf.

The project began with the development of a design that would match the sporty Porsche 911 GT3. Blue stripes were chosen to pick up on the corporate colour. Silver foil was used as a special highlight, which was then finished with platinum foil. This combined different working techniques and materials.

Once the design had been finalised, the preparations began. Fixed points were marked on the vehicle and the strips were measured. The films were cut and prepared using the plotter. After thorough pre-cleaning, the wrapping could begin.

Björn Gerbeckx and Matthias Netsch, head of the foiling department, were on hand to provide the two trainees with advice and support throughout the entire process and assisted them with the various work steps.

One challenge was the finishing with platinum leaf. The entire work step required the utmost concentration and dexterity. Gilding compound, the "glue" for the platinum, was applied thinly to the silver foil. The high-quality material was applied using transfer paper. The platinum leaf was then carefully worked in with a brush and cosmetic cotton wool and any excess removed.

A highly transparent stone chip protection film was applied to ensure that the lettering could withstand the external conditions and the wind. This not only protects the platinum, but also the original paintwork and gives the overall appearance a significantly higher gloss level.

The result is something to be proud of: Modern vehicle lettering that impresses with its elaborate design and high-quality materials. Our trainees Lena and Fabian have proven that they are not only creative, but also skilled craftsmen. We are proud of their commitment and look forward to more exciting projects in the future.
