LIGHT & ART – Berchinale trainee competition

Title: ‘Steel & Stream – The Pike in the Cage’

As part of the light object competition for Berchinale 2025, our trainees were invited to demonstrate their creative skills. The theme was deliberately kept open to allow scope for innovative and imaginative light art objects that could be presented both indoors and outdoors.

STEEL & STREAM

After much deliberation and tinkering, the impressive work entitled ‘Steel & Stream – The Pike in the Cage’ was created. The trainees created an extraordinary project that masterfully combines artistic expression, regional identity and sustainable design.

The focus is on the Berching pike, the proud heraldic animal of the town of Berching. Embedded in three openwork wave levels and symbolically captured in a stylised cage, it tells the story of the town. The warm white lighting from above and below creates an atmospheric play of light that creates a special atmosphere both during the day and at night.

ROBUST & EFFICIENT FOR FURTHER INTEGRATION

Made of robust Corten steel, the structure is not only weatherproof and vandal-proof, but also ideal for permanent integration into the cityscape – on the planned Hechtiweg. The natural rusting process of the material symbolises transience and change, while at the same time setting aesthetic and sustainable accents. With a consumption of only 0.06 kWh, the installation combines impressive effect with high efficiency.

The project is not only proof of creative support for young talent, but also a strong commitment to regional solidarity and sustainable urban development.

It is particularly noteworthy that FISCHER LICHT & METALL is generously donating the light object for further use. In future, this work of art will find its new home on the planned Hechtiweg, which is to be built in 2026 in the picturesque town of Berching – a shining example of sustainability in action.

ACHIEVING GREAT THINGS TOGETHER

Furthermore, this project was only possible thanks to the active involvement and expertise of many helpers. We would therefore like to express our sincere thanks to all trainees and employees who supported the trainee project with such dedication and passion.
